I have been asked to evaluate two approaches to strategic management and assess their suitability in an organisation. Emergent and intended strategies are two different approaches to strategic management. The emergent approach can be often described as a set of consistent decisions which results in an unintended or accidental pattern; this pattern wasnt anticipated during a plan. Intended strategy is perceived to be a more and reliable strategy , however emergent strategy can aid a business to perhaps be more flexible to a more volatile and constant changing market. Emergent Emergent strategies have proven to be successful for many organisations, Henry Mintzberg was a scholar who often discussed the need for this strategy.
